Hi there! :)
Have you always wanted a bead loom so that you can weave your own beautiful bracelets? Can't afford one that's professional and expensive?
Well then! Lucky you came across this page!
I'll show you how to make a simple bead loom with nothing but a cardboard box and staples (technically)!

Hi there! :)
Have you always wanted a bead loom so that you can weave your own beautiful bracelets? Can't afford one that's professional and expensive?
Well then! Lucky you came across this page!
I'll show you how to make a simple bead loom with nothing but a cardboard box and staples (technically)!
-A cardboard box (I used one from a piece of furniture from IKEA)-A pair of scissors
-A ruler
-A pen/pencil
-A stapler
2. The second step is to measure 15 cm (about 5.9 inches) off on the box, and mark it. It doesn't have to be 15 cm long, that is up to you, and how wide you want to be able to make your bracelets. Better more than less, though. Do this on the side which is parallel to the one you just marked, and cut these two parts off.
3. <-- Now you take your two 15 cm long pieces of cardboard, and start snipping in them. It doesn't matter how may you decide to snip, just remember not to make them too thin, or too wide, about 0.5 cm for each. Here I made around 27. Do this to both pieces of cardboard, and control that each have the same amount, and that they are about just as wide.
4. On the two parallel sides which you haven't cut in, measure and mark around 15 cm in the middle of the box.
5. Take the pieces which you snip in, and staple them onto the two sides where you didn't cut anything. Make sure the the end of the snippets are above the edge of the box, so that you can easily weave beads onto it.
6. <-- This is somewhat what it should look like by now. I know what you're thinking. It's too wide, and you can't weave on it. But actually, you can. It's really simple, and the extra space lets you have your beads there too! :)

7. <-- Just to show you that you can actually use it, I started another new project on it, and you can see how it ended up on the next couple of pictures.
Later on, I'll post some pictures of all the other bracelets I've made using my cardboard loom! :)
Now, I didn't have enough time to turn it into a full bracelet like the other ones I've made with this bead loom, so I just made it into a little ring. :)

Masha'Allah, that's creative already :3
ReplyDeleteJazakAllah khair, sister! :)

ReplyDeletevery creative!
ReplyDeletethanks for the idea:)
We've used something similar to teach Boy Scouts how to weave yarn. You can even make it work with a flat piece of cardboard and slip something underneath the warp strings to raise them up and keep them tight.
ReplyDelete@Foteini, I'm glad you liked the idea! :)
ReplyDelete@Karen Tapache, it's amazing how simple it is to make such tools for things like weaving and such. It's like my tutorial for how to make a quilling tool out of marker cap and a needle, it's so simple, but it produces work that looks so difficult and detailed! :)
I'm glad you liked my idea, thanks for popping by :) I checked your blog, it's very nice :)
Thanks for following my blog, share your smart idea at my blog Creative Linky..add your link there

Hello,
ReplyDeleteI just wanted to let you know that I'm launching a new site that's a collection of different jewelry projects, www.AllFreeBeadedJewelry.com, and that I linked to this great tutorial:
http://www.allfreebeadedjewelry.com/Jewelry-Techniques/Making-Your-Own-Bead-Loom
I would like to know if I can link like this to you, including your photo, in the future. Or if you would be willing to allow me to post projects in full on the site - full credit will always be given to you, of course. It would be yet another source of traffic to your blog. Once you have 2+ projects on the site I can start you a designer profile where you can tell everyone a little about yourself and include links to your blog, etsy store, facebook, etc.
The site is still under construction, so if some things seem weird they will be fixed. Once the designing part is done the site will be more akin to our sister sites AllFreeSewing.com and FaveCrafts.com.
Please let me know, I would love to work with you further.
Thanks!

ReplyDeleteHow creative!! I have never tried loom beading and didn't want to put out any money for a loom... and now I can see if I enjoy weaving on a loom without shelling out hard earned money. Thank you so much!!! p.s. I found the link to your project on allfreebeadedjewelry.com
